I was born in 1927 and my sister Angelica in 1924 in L.A. to Luis Eschavez and Ramona Miranda who were natives of Mexico and suposedly died in 1928 while working in the fields in the L.A. area. We ended up in Mexico and finally in the Childrens Home where we adopted in 1932 in Tucson Arizona. Perhaps they were unknown victims of the St.Francis Dam Disaster since we have never found any relatives or information of their demise.

My friend is working on a documentary on the Glen Tavern Inn in Santa Paula. I understand there were 2 murders there...there is the legend of the haunting of room 307, as well as a prostitute who was also killed there. I'm trying to learn the years and months that these murders occured, so I can find out the names of the victims. I hear that one man was a Navy Captain killed in a poker game. If anyone knows more, please help! Thanks

I was born(1944), raised, and lived in the wonderful town of Newhall untill 1978. My wife, children and I moved to Texas in '78 and then on to Atlanta, Georgia in '84 where we now reside. I have so many fond memories of my childhood growing up on Walnut St. in Newhall. Those were the days when the milkman still delivered milk at your door step. In my mind's eye, I can still hear the huffing and puffing of an early a.m. steam engine locomotive trying to "get going" from a dead stop in Saugus as it picked up speed making it's way on into Newhall and beyond. In those simpler times, you might have read a story in the Newhall Signal that went something like this. " Bob Moss, who lives at 2487 Chestnut Street, was traveling south on Walnut Street when he came to a full stop at the corner of Lyons Avenue. Upon making a right turn, and heading west on Lyons, Bob's back right tire came loose. The tire went all the way across Lyons Avenue and into mrs. Williams' front yard located at 342. The tire nearly hit "Pete", Mrs. williams' small chihuahua dog. The tire ended up on Mrs. Williams' front porch knocking over a pot of begonias she had just put out on Tuesday." Let's be thankful nobody was hurt, especially "Pete."

If anyone out there has any old photos of Newhall, especially of the downtown stores, the show, malt shop, cowboys in the 4th of July parade, Melody Ranch, etc. I sure would like to buy them or pay for a reprint. Sending them email would also be just fine. I would also be interested in buying anything that advertised Newhall events (or surrounding area) from the 1940's to the 1960's. Items such as posters, flyers, post cards, displays, tokens, ink pens, etc. I miss good ol Newhall !! I am happy and blessed to have been a part of the History of this wonderful town. Hello to all my old Newhall friends who may read this. May GOD bless!

I grew up in Sand Canyon with my Father Thomas Glenn Walker. Our life there was a style that cannot be experienced there today. The land was open and free...no zoning back then. I am forever grateful to my late grandfather Frank Evan Walker for selling his ranch to the State of California for the purpose of making the Placerita Canyon Park. He saved a place for us, his grandchildren, to visit ...a place to ponder what it was like to eek out a living for twelve children in the California frontier. When I was a child, he still lived in a log cabin where the park is today. Close to my heart I hold dear many stories in which I am passing on to my grandchildren. I cherish the memories.

This website was a great surprise, sent by a friend. I'm Frank E. Walker's grand daughter, and Joseph Reyneir's great- grand daughter. I grew up in Sand Canyon. Joan Walter's family were our friends and neighbors. George Starbuck is my cousin. You made an error in the picture, Sand Canyon 1960, that was Joseph Reyneir's homestead, not Frank Walker's. Thank s for great website and pictures, it brings back good memories of riding my horses all over those hills! Teri Walker Thomas

I enjoyed your web site and if i can not live in california and visit this historic place of great honor in united states history as well as a place where people exerted themselves physically and mentally to get the twenty mule teams across the mohave desert and other areas of the santa clarita valley,i can at least visit through your web site and possibly buy some of your publications to be there in spirit.I will always remember the beloved former president ronald reagan narrate the episodes of "Death Valley Days" that i believe was sponsered by the borax corporation. Those indeed were very memorable days. While i only visited california once i thoroughly enjoyed my visit to anaheim, montebello, pico rivera and driving on the santa monica highway,i believe it was.Anyhow i am glad to join your society even though i live on the east coast i will always love california and the good people of the great state of california. Thanks for having this web site.I have enjoyed it thoroughly and will visit again i am sure!Someday i will return to california for a visit. If anyone knows of a map that shows the railroad route through the santa clarita valley ,please e-mail me as i am also a rail fan. Thanks again!
